Tour Championship

The MCGA conducts two championships that members in good standing can participate in. Both of these contests are held at the end of the season and run in conjunction with normal MCGA Saturday golf events. The first is called the Tour Championship and the second is called the Club Championship

What is the Tour Championship?

The MCGA Tour Championship (also referred to as the "Points Cup") is a season-long competition. The winner of the Tour Championship is determined by an accumulation of regular season points and playoff round points that culminates in one final, winner-take-all round of the top 5 points earners.

Points During the Regular Season

During the regular season, members can earn points at weekly events according to their finish in their particular flight by the following table. All members that compete and complete an official round earn a minimum of 5 pts. Rounds designated as non-point earning or cancelled due to weather or other factors do not count.

Playoffs

The playoff rounds begin about sixty days prior to end of the season for members. The rounds are not always held on successive weeks. Non-playoff, non-points earning rounds can be mixed in between. Each member starts the playoffs with their respective accumulation of season-long points and try to increase them by earning more points during the subsequent playoff events that they qualify for. Each playoff round is a low net, stroke event.

Points During the First Three Playoff Rounds

During the first three playoff rounds, points will be awarded per the following table. Players can earn points according to their finish against the whole field, not awarded by flight as in the regular season. No Tour Championship points are awarded in any non-playoff rounds held after the playoffs start.

Advancing in the Playoffs

If two or more players are tied in total points vying for the last spot in a playoff round, the tiebreaker will be the player with the highest total number of flight wins during the season. If there is still a tie after that, the second tiebreaker will be the player with the highest total number of Tour Championship events.

Tour Championship Finals

The final playoff round will be a single, 18 hole, "winner take all", net stroke play round. As with all "major" events, an 80% handicap adjustment will be used to determine the low net scores. In addition, players also receive a score advantage for this final round according to their "seeding" or total accumulated season point standings. The player with the highest total season points will be seeded #1. The player with second highest total points will be seeded #2 and so on according to the table below.

The player with the lowest net score + advantage will be the MCGA Tour Champion.  In the event of a tie for Tour Champion, a one-hole sudden death playoff will be held, if the course will allow it. Otherwise, we will use the same scorecard tiebreaking system used during the season.
