About MCGA

What is the MCGA?

The Mission City Golf Association (MCGA) is an organization dedicated to promoting amateur golf in South Central Texas. Every Saturday morning MCGA hosts an 18-hole golf event somewhere at a golf course in San Antonio, New Braunfels, Blanco, Castroville, Floresville, or Seguin. We strive to foster friendships and camaraderie among golfers of all skill levels. Our vibrant community provides men and women golfers with the chance to compete and enhance their skills amidst the beautiful landscapes of South Texas. While golf is the central focus of our group, we cherish the relationships just as much.

While the MCGA is a golf association it's also a golf league but without the normal commitment to play every single week during the season. The MCGA golf season is a full year and generally consists of single rounds of golf held every Saturday morning. There is the occasional time where we might play on a Sunday however. There is no minimum requirement for how much golf an MCGA member must play. A member can play once, twice or 50 times in a season. It's up to them.

How Do MCGA Events Work?

An MCGA event is normally an individual stroke play event using low net score. The majority of MCGA events are conducted in a shotgun start format meaning that all golfers start on different tees at the same time and therefore everyone finishes their round at about the same time. The field is divided into "flights" to have golfers of similar handicaps compete together. Player groupings and tee assignments are handled by the MCGA, but special pairing requests will be considered.

Players tee off from the same set of tee boxes during a round, but due to differences in ages, gender and handicaps, some players have additional options. Those are explained here.

During a normal round there are a number of different "pools" that members can compete in. Non-members have a smaller number of pools that they are eligible for. A full explanation of all of the pools can be found here.
